Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England.

Part of the beautiful county of Shropshire, Shrewsbury is situated in the centre of England close to several major cities. It is the perfect base for exploring the surrounding areas.

The Medieval market town of Shrewsbury sits inside the loop of the River Severn. With its award-winning park and gardens, 11th-century Abbey, attractive castle and an abundance of listed and half-timbered buildings, Shrewsbury has a great deal to offer visitors. Shrewsbury is the birthplace of Charles Darwin, world-famous naturalist and author of ‘On the Origin of Species’, his theory of evolution.

The Ironbridge Gorge, World Heritage Site is known as the birthplace of the industrial revolution and is, perhaps, the reason you are learning English today. Visit the famous cast-iron 'Ironbridge' and then go back in time to Blists Hill Victorian Town.

Maybe an afternoon at one of our 10 local National Trust estates is more your ‘cup of tea’? Visit a grand house, such as Attingham Park, explore extensive parklands and then relax with a pot of tea and a traditional English scone or two.

For a taste of the countryside, why not join me on a walk in the beautiful rolling Shropshire hills, an area of outstanding natural beauty … and perhaps a stop at a rustic country pub for a pint of real ale to quench our thirst.

Shropshire has a legacy of battles, historic sites, and atmospheric ruins. All with stories for you to discover! Experience the South Shropshire castles tour to see some interesting examples from most ruined to best-preserved.

Just over the border into Wales, the glorious gardens of Powis Castle make a great afternoon out.

The walled Roman city of Chester, just under an hour away by car, is a great mix of history, shopping and great bars and restaurants. It is famous for its black and white buildings including the Rows, medieval two-tier buildings above street level with covered walkways which today house many of Chester's shopping galleries.

A drive through the stunning scenery of the Snowdonia national park to the Welsh coast is another great day out. From quaint fishing villages to grand Victorian promenades and exciting outdoor adventure centres, there is so much to see and do!

Days out to the fantastic museums of Birmingham, interesting Albert Docks of Liverpool, or trendy shops and bars of Manchester are also recommended and would be a perfect weekend addition to the programme.

Or do you have other ideas? Zip-lining, a brewery tour, open water swimming...

Let me know what you want to do and I can create a programme just for you.
